Paul Raven’s Newsround 15.06.12

Rather than attempting to pad out snippets of news into full page stories, we’ve decided to take a different approach to your typical blog when it comes to Rovers news. And so we are delighted to introduce Paul Raven’s Newsround, a weekly feature for this site which will bring you a round-up of all the latest Rovers related news from the past week every Friday.

Syers Signs

Rovers announced their first signing of the close-season on Thursday as David Syers joined on a two-year deal. The 24-year-old midfielder has spent the last two seasons at Bradford City, making over fifty appearances, and had previously flitted around the West Yorkshire non-league scene with Harrogate Town, Osset Albion, Farsley Celtic and Guiseley. The signing caught most by surprise, particularly Free Press reporter Paul Goodwin who tweeted “Is the media not invited?” in response to the club’s teaser that they were interviewing their first signing that afternoon.

The first round of the League Cup, now known as the Capital One Cup, has been drawn and Rovers have been handed a home tie against York City. The fixture is provisionally scheduled for Tuesday 13th August, but could be moved to the preceding weekend if both clubs agree to a switch.

The club have announced that the Fans’ Forum, scheduled for Monday evening, will now get a ‘second sitting’ after all 400 available tickets for the initial 6:15pm event were claimed. There will now be a secondary Forum at 7:15pm. That the event is now scheduled to last less than an hour suggests that interaction between fans and the club maybe someone limited.

Belles Beaten By Birmingham

The Doncaster Rovers Belles bowed out of the FAWSL Continental Cup on Sunday with defeat at Birmingham City in their final group game. Goals in each half from Eni Aluko and Jodie Taylor were enough to give the Blues a 2-0 win in the fixture at Stratford Town.
