Chesterfield 2-2 Doncaster Rovers: 250 word match report
This game started in peculiar fashion as Rovers flew out the traps much quicker than Chesterfield to take an early lead; an unmarked Jamie Coppinger found the top corner after being sent clear by Luke McCullough on three minutes.
Rovers then doubled their lead shortly after as Harry Forrester floated in a corner which was all too easy for Andy Butler to head home for 2-0. Chesterfield grew into the game and started to threaten, with a header from a corner forcing Stephen Bywater into an outstanding save to keep the score at 2-0.
Eventually Chesterfield pulled one back on 43 minutes as Sam Morsy picked out a loosely marked Eoin Doyle with a brilliant ball, and the striker took it down before slotting past Bywater. The second half started scrappily and Kyle Bennett was lucky to stay on the pitch after committing a number of fouls, before being wisely substituted.
As Chesterfield pressed for the equaliser Rovers had two great chances to score on the break, but both Curtis Main and Uche Ikpeazu saw their one-on-one efforts saved by the home keeper. Ikpeazu then made a chance for himself, hitting a curling effort which unfortunately came back off the post.
Rovers were clearly fatigued in the latter stages and after relentless pressure and a couple of goal-line clearances the equaliser finally came in the 87th minute when Eoin Doyle headed back across goal for an unmarked Jimmy Ryan to nod home.
